Tom Nichols grew up in the Savannah area, attending Chatham County Public Schools and receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Armstrong State College. Following his graduation from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University with his Master of Divinity degree, Tom began his full-time ministry in the United Methodist Church serving parishes in Southwest Georgia before entering the Navy as Chaplain. His twenty-two years in uniform included three tours with Marines and five assignments in Navy commands around the country and overseas.
His final assignment in the Navy was as Director of Religious Ministries for Navy Region Southeast, a position that included the ministry programs and staffing during the establishment of the U.S. Detention Facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He retired in 2004 and returned to ministry in Georgia, finishing out his forty-eight years of pastoral ministry at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. Tom is happy to be joining the Real Estate team at Engel & Völkers and welcomes the opportunity of an international clientele. He is also eager to begin his career with such a service driven firm as Engel & Völkers where he can be sure to offer his future clients the best possible Real Estate experience.
Tom is on the Board of the Savannah Navy League and serves as the unofficial chaplain for SNL meetings and special events. Since retiring in June of 2018, Tom has volunteered with the Savannah-Hilton Head US Kids Golf program while completing his work toward his Real Estate Salesperson license. He owns properties in Chatham and Effingham counties, and has followed Savannah area real estate for the past eight years, having lived on the westside, in The Landings, downtown Savannah, and now in Pooler, where he spent his high school and undergraduate years. He brings his love of people, the city of Savannah, its homes and its history to his work in real estate.
